Iide is a town with a great deal to offer the visitor. You can find details here. And if you would like to know a little more about the town before you visit the community, please try the Iide Challenge Shop in Koenji any weekend. You can also see images of places to stay here and ways to enjoy yourself here.
Within the town of Iide, Nakatsugawa is an award-winning community with a warm welcome for everyone in any season, and every season has a different and powerful appeal. As Adam Fulford wrote in the magazine Bilateral, "With its forested hills, crystal waters, serene valleys and starry nights, Nakatsugawa is the place you’d go if you ever wanted to get away from it all. The picturesque centrepiece of the community is a lake whose appearance cycles with the seasons. In early summer, when it’s bulging, you can float past groves of willows up to their waists in water. Later the lake will be drained to fill the rice fields, leaving little more than a creek in the middle of a meadow. As autumn draws in and the water rises again, the resident ducks and geese take wing with a clatter and wheel about against a backdrop of gold and crimson hills. Then in winter the ice-bound lake huddles under a thick futon of snow with Mt. Iide resplendent in the distance."
Now this idyllic community is at the forefront of a new challenge, one that we hope will appeal to you! Teams have been gathering regularly in Nakatsugawa and at the Iide Challenge Shop with their sights set on developing new products that make good use of the local area's abundant beauty and natural resources. Those teams don't get stuck in meeting rooms; we move around and think on our feet, speak with local residents, and share valuable information as we close in on the goal of helping to pay for things that the community needs with revenue from the products that we create and sell.
